8th Anniversary Celebration & Maha Kumbhabhishekam at Sri Shirdi Sai Cultural Centre, Off Magadi Road, Bangalore.

It is my Pleasure to write this Article about the 8th Anniversary Celebrations & Maha Kumbhabhishekam that was held on 21st & 22nd July 2012 at Sri Shirdi Sai Cultural Centre, Bangalore. I had previously published articles on this temple taken during various programs & the list can be seen at the bottom of this Article.

There was delay in Procuring the Photo Feed from the Photographer & due to this the publishing of this article got delayed & pending for a very long time. A total of 2000+ Snaps were taken during the program & it was hard to choose only 200+ spaces due to space constraints. I'm doing my Best to show the glimpse of the complete event that was performed on 21st & 22nd July 2012 to mark the 8th Anniversary of the temple.

8th Anniversary Celebration & Maha Kumbhabhishekam was held on Saturday & Sunday, the 21st & 22nd of July 2012 at Sri Shirdi Sai Cultural Centre, Off Magadi Road in Bangalore. The temple Committee had planned to built the Raja Gopuram & Dhuni & the construction activity was going on for almost a year now.

Dhuni of Sri Sai Baba was inaugurated & the Sacred fire was lit by bringing Agni for Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Mandir, N R Colony, Bangalore on Guru Pournima Day 2012.

On Saturday 21st July 2012, The event Started by around 05:30pm with a Procession of Sai Baba's Potrait along with the Kalas that was planned to be installed on the Raja Gopuram. The Procession was performed around the temple & surrounding areas & returned by 06:30pm.

Meanwhile Mangala Snan, Ganapathi Pooje, Ganga Pooje, Mantapa Pooje, Yagashaala Pravesha, Surya Namaskara, Swastipunyahavaachana, Rakshaabandhana, Devaanaandi, Rakshaadhaarane, Panchagavya Pooje, Prathimaashuddi, Panchagavya Prashana & Rutvijavarava was performed till 07:00pm.

By 06:30pm after the return of the Puja, Ankurarpana, Chaturdwara Pooje & Dhanyadivasa was performed in the temple premises till 07:30pm.

Later on the Homam consisting of Raakshoghna Homa, Aghora Homa, Gana Homa, Navagraha Homa, Vaastu Homa, Mruthyunjaya Homa, Kshetrapaalaka Homa, Durga Homa, Devi Homa, Rudra Homa, Sudarshana Homa, Sri Shirdi Sai Moola Mantra Homa, Kala Homa & Nyasa Homa were performed between 07:30 - 09:30pm. Kalasa Stapana was performed after the homa.

The Day ended with Shej Aarti to Sri Sai Baba & Prasad Distribution to Devotees present in the temple Premises.

On 22nd July 2012 the Main Day of Celebrations, the day started with Kakad Aarti to Sri Sai Baba by 05:00am.

By 06:00am the Punyaha Naandi, Kshetrapalakabali, Kalas Stapana, Avaahanaa Pooja, Gana Homa, Navagraha Homa, Sri Shirdi Sai Homa were commenced seperately at the ground, 1st & 2nd floor simultaneously. Bali Puja was performed at the entrance of the temple. Puja & Aarti were performed at the entrance of the Sai Temple.

After the Completion of Gana Homam at the Ground Floor, Purnahuti was performed by putting silk cloth filled with dry fruits, coconut, fruits & other spices on the Holy Fire.

By 8:00 am, after the Completion of the Homam, the Kalas were removed one by one & Sai Devotees were allowed to Carry the Kalas containing water & Milk to wards the Marble Statue of Sai Baba Installed in the temple premises. Sai Baba's Abhishekam was performed with water from the Kalas. Panchamrutha Abhishekam consisting of Milk, curd, sugar, ghee, honey & fruits were performed to the small Panchaloha Utsav Murthy & Then to the Main Idol of Sai Baba.

After the Panchamrutha Abhishek, Abhishek with Udi, Turmeric, Kumkum & Chandan were performed to the Marble Statue of Sai Baba & it was a really amazing to see Baba in different colours & showing different facial expressions for every colour put on him in the form of Udi, Chandan, Kumkum & Termeric. Later on Baba was decorated with fruits as in Pala Alankaram.
After the Abhishekam, Vastra Alankar & Pushpa Alankar was performed to the Statue of Sri Sai Baba. Sai Baba was well decorated for the Day & he was wearing a Red self designed dress with Gold Crown. Baba was completely decorated with flower Garlands & was looking very contented with the Alankar peformed to him.

Meanwhile, Classical Music by Saxophone was performed live in the temple premises after the Abhishek & Alankar. Sri Somanna, MLA of this area an Ardent devotee of Sri Sai Baba visited the temple after the Alankar & took the blessings of Sri Sai Baba.

After the Mini Aarti, Thirth Prasad was given to Sai Devotees. Morning Tiffin was served to Sai Devotees present in the temple. Morning Tiffin Consisting of Set Dosa, Masala Sabzi & Sheera along with Coffee/Tea was served to around 500 Sai Devotees & the food was quite delicious.

I've been visiting Sai Temple for quite some time & this is the first time, i could get such a wonderful morning Prasad Breakfast. The Quality of food was quite Amazing & every Sai Devotee was attended very well.

This is the 2nd time i'm attending the Temple Anniversary of this temple & the Catering quality & arrangement were at Par than all those temples i visited in between for the past 1 year.

After Completion of the Mini Aarti, a Stall to distribute Prasad was set up at the entrance of the temple & Lady Members of the Temple association packed the prasad carefully & Started Distributing the Prasad to Sai Devotees who had paid for the Different Seva. This went till the end of the Day & all the Sai Devotees were given the Prasad.

By 10:00am, The Navagraha Homam, Kalashabishekam were completed & the Maha Kumbh abishekam of the Raja Gopuram Commenced.

After the Kalas Puja, in the 1st Floor, the Kalas filled with water & Milk were brought on top of the Gopuram one by one & Abhishek of the Kalas was performed with the Chanting of Spiritual Mantras. The entire atmosphere was quite & peaceful with the Chanting of Mantras.

The Maha kumbh abishekam went on till 12:00 Noon & got completed with all Sai Devotees performing the Abhishek to the Kalas by climbing the wooden steps to reach the summit of the Gopuram.


Sri Raghunath Guruji from "Temple of Success" visited the temple & attended the Maha Kumbh Abhishek & gave small Discourse on the need to pray to God. After the Discourse, Maha Mangala Aarti was performed to the Gopuram after the Abhishek. After the Completion of the Gopuram Aarti, the Temple premises was cleaned before the Madhyan Aarti. Naivaithyam consisting of Bisi Bela Baath, Curd Rice, Pickle & Jilebi was given to Sai Baba & Madhyaan Aarti was performed by 12 noon. After the Madhyan Aarti Annadanam was performed in the temple premises & continued till 04:00pm.

A Total of 100 volunteers were arranged in a group of 5 were made to maintain the Stalls & to take care of the Prasad Distribution & other activities. A Special Stall for Ladies, Children, Senior Citizens were set up inside the park opposite to the Sai Mandir & 2 Stalls for general public in the Ends of the Road. Clean Drinking water from Mineral water cans were provided to all the Sai Devotees.

After the Completion of the Aarti, Prasad consisting of Bisi Belabaath, Curd Rice, Pickle & Jilebi were served to Sai Devotees continuously from 12:30 pm till 4pm in the evening. A total of 7500+ Sai Devotees were provided with the afternoon Lunch.

After the Noon Aarti, Sai Bhajans was performed by Sri Maruthi Prasad who is associated with the Mahalakshmi Layout Anjeneya Swamy temple this program continued till 2pm. After 2 pm Ladies from Sai Mahila Sabha performed Sai Baba Bhajans till 4:30pm.

In the Evening, Dhoop Aarti to Sri Sai Baba were performed between 5:45 pm to 6:15pm to Sri Sai Baba. At 6:15pm Sai Satya Narayan Vratham commenced on the 1st floor of the temple in front of the Dwarakamai. Mrs & Mr. Bhushan, Members of the temple performed the Vratham. The Vratham & Mangala Aarti completed by 8:00pm.

At 8:00pm Sai Baba's Shej Aarti was performed after Naivaithyam was given to Sai Baba. The Temple premises was opened to Sai Devotees till 10:00pm.Volunteers & members of the Association were provided with night dinner consisting of Rasam Rice & Curd Rice. A Total of 18,000 Sai Devotees took the blessing of Sai Baba on both the days during the 8th Anniversary celebrations at Sri Shirdi Sai Cultural Centre.




Some Highlights of the Event
1. A total of 100+ Volunteers were split into groups of 5 to take care of all the major activities of the Sai Temple including serving food & also maintain proper discipline inside temple premises.

2. All the Sai Devotees were treated equally & were encouraged to follow the Queue to have the Darshan of Sai Baba.

3. Special Food Counter for Ladies, Children & Senior Citizens were set up to benefit Sai Devotees. Tiffin was served between 09:30am till 11:00am. Then Again Lunch was served between 12:30pm till 4:00pm. A total of 9500 Sai Devotees were given prasad.

4. Prasad Counter & Sales Counter was set up & worked all day long to distribute prasads to Sai Devotees visiting the Sai Temple.

5. Bhajan Programs were performed by 3 Groups between 10:30am - till 5:00pm & this encouraged lot of new talents & also helped maintain Peace & Serenity inside the temple premises.

6. All Sai Devotees were asked to Switch off Phone or keep it in Silent mode & this helped in achieving a peaceful enviroment.

7. Sai Baba's Sanctum & Meditation hall were decorated decently. All the Puja Rituals were performed properly. Sai Baba's Aarti was performed very well with different set of Aarti.

8. A Total of 18,000 Sai Devotees took the blessing of Sai Baba on both the days during the 8th Anniversary celebrations

Overall Experience in this temple was really wonderful. Our Special Thanks to Sri Kuppuswamy, President of the Trust & to all the Members of the Trust for organizing this wonderful event.
